Arturo Alfonso Schomburg

Schomburg saw the need for the documentation of Black history and created the archive that is today the Schomburg Collection:

Much more recently Thomas Allan Harris (IMA instructor) realized that there are still huge gaps in the visual history of African-Americans, this led him to crowd-source the problem by creating the Digital Diaspora Family Reunion Roadshow, a project that ended up serving not just African-Americans in creating a shared digital record:
